About the event
Food is the carrier of energy that helps sustain the vital operations and growth of living organisms. Synchronously it functions as a powerful semiotic device that is reflective of societal conditions and collective representation.
In this body of work, inspired by the archives of plant pathologist, entomologist, and virologist Dr. Leslie Coleman and agricultural scientist and plant geneticist Dr. M.S. Swaminathan, we explore different ways of harnessing the energy and symbolism of food as it transitions from raw to cooked. As you engage with the different layers of this installation, subtle sensorial experiences guide you in tracing the web of connections that inquire into and reflect upon the political, scientific, cultural, societal, and economic functions of food.
